Dear Mr. Horan:
This will provide the names of a few additional persons who may have information about me that may be of interest to federal law enforcement.
DANIEL ELLSBERG, Ph.D.
Ellsberg resides at 3801 Connecticut Avenue, NW, Apt. 146, and is a neighbor of mine. This is the same Ellsberg who leaked confidential Pentagon documents relating to the Vietnam War, and who is referenced in the autobiographical writing that I prepared and submitted to you as well as to numerous other persons (including Noam Chomsky, a professor of linguistics at MIT who graduated from my high school in Philadelphia, and who was also a prominent Vietnam War protester).
It may be of interest to law enforcement whether any persons have contacted Ellsberg about that writing; the writing lists my address as 3801 Connecticut Avenue and persons who know Ellsberg would probably know that he also resides at that address.
I have never met Ellsberg; he has no objective reason to link my face to my name. On occasion I have seen him working out in the exercise room at 3801, and he once asked me about a piece of music I was playing on my tape recorder: "Is that one of the Beethoven string quartets?" On another occasion, he rushed past me in the hallway on the first floor; he apologized and said: "I have tickets to see Star Wars [at the Uptown Theater]."
JOHN FALK
Falk was employed as an agency-supplied temporary legal assistant at Akin Gump from about mid-September 1989 to late October 1989, about one month. He was employed by the temporary agency "Personnel Pool." Falk was a member of a team of temporary personnel I supervised on a document production task for the client Eastern Airlines. I had lunch with him on three occasions. He was originally from Scottsdale, Arizona; I believe he graduated from college in 1986 (either Arizona State or the University of Arizona). He had previously been employed as an insurance claims adjuster. While employed at Akin Gump he shared an office on the fifth floor of the firm with another temporary employee employed by Personnel Pool, Sandra ("Sandy") A. Jones. Falk's (and Jones's) office was located around the corner from the legal assistant administrative staff of Maggie Sinnott and J.D. Neary, and across the hall from the office of partner Earl L. Segal, who ran
the legal assistant program. Jones reported to me, after Falk left, that Falk had spoken to her about joining the Marine Corps. He had also spoken about a desire to attend law school. He had an interest in international trade, and spoke of a research project that he was working on that involved international trade. He had once taken a trip to Greece, and found a topless beach there to be very entertaining.
SANDY JONES
Jones was employed as an agency-supplied temporary legal assistant at Akin Gump in 1989, at about the same time as Falk. She was a graduate of Tufts University in Boston. She knew Jesse Raben, a full-time Akin Gump legal assistant, who also graduated from Tufts, in 1988. (Raben is now an attorney at Sutherland, Asbill, and Brennan and can be contacted at 202 383-0187.) I had lunch with Jones and Falk on one occasion: at a Mexican restaurant on P Street. Jones was originally from Reading, Pennsylvania. I believe her father owned a firm that manufactured abrasives (sandpaper, etc.). She had once taken a trip to Brazil, which she found disappointing. She said that she had plans to go on to law school. She was later hired by Akin Gump as a full-time legal assistant; she worked in the "Toxic Tort" practice group and was assigned to an office on the fourth floor, in 1990, with a legal assistant named David Berkowitz. As of July 1991 Jones was assigned to room 351C; this was adjacent to an office occupied by another legal assistant named Glenda C. Creasy (now Glenda Creasy-Walden) whose office was room 352C. Creasy-Walden was a senior legal assistant at the firm who was close to legal administrator Maggie Sinnott. (In the late 1980's Creasy-Walden's office was located on the fifth floor, across from Sinnott's office.) According to recent press reports Creasy-Walden is now a practicing attorney at the firm and has been working, together with partner William G. Hundley, on the defense of Vernon E. Jordan, Jr., another Akin Gump partner, who was called as a witness by the Office of Independent Counsel (Kenneth W. Starr, Esq.) in the Lewinsky phase of the Whitewater investigation. Television news footage showing Jordan entering and exiting U.S. District Court typically shows Jordan accompanied by Hundley and Creasy-Walden. Thus, the following persons are linked in some way, if only nominally:
Jesse Raben Tufts, 1988
Sandra Jones Tufts, 1988 5th floor/later, rm.
Maggie Sinnott . . . . . . . . . . 5th floor/ later rm. 310C
Glenda Creasy Walden . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Jordan defense
William Hundley . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .Jordan defense
Vernon Jordan
CHRISTOPHER ("CHRIS") MONTAGUE
Montague was a legal assistant at Akin Gump, whose tenure began in the summer of 1989. He was assigned to rm. 919C in late October 1989. Rm 919C was a large group office that housed a team of legal assistants. I was assigned to the this office from late October 1989 to April 5, 1991. Montague and I worked at opposite ends of the office, and did not work on the same projects. Montague was friendly with Jesse Raben; I believe Montague and Raben were roommates for a time, and resided on the 1700 block of U Street in Adams-Morgan. (Craig W. Dye used to live at 1726 U Street at that time). Montague was originally from Billings, Montana; he had a sister. I vaguely recall overhearing him say he had some connection with the Sundance Film Festival that is run by the actor Robert Redford.
JOHN BROOKS
Brooks was a legal assistant at the firm who worked for the "Toxic Tort" practice group. Brooks entered Harvard Medical School in the fall semester, 1990. Presumably, Brooks graduated Harvard Medical School in the spring of 1994 and is by now a practicing physician. I believe that some person or persons had spread a rumor at the firm, as of at least early 1989, that I had a homosexual love interest in Brooks. In fact, I did not learn the identity of Brooks until the early spring of 1990. The existence of such a rumor is significant with respect to the veracity of Akin Gump partner Dennis M. Race, Esq., the attorney who terminated my employment. Race made a sworn statement to the D.C. Department of Human Rights that the subject of my sexual orientation was never brought up by anyone involved directly or indirectly with my employment during the entire period of my tenure. I believe that Brooks might be able to provide facts to you that would show that rumors about my sexual orientation were, in fact, widespread at the firm. I believe that at least two of the attorneys Brooks worked with were Clifford Zatz, Esq. (887-4518) and Gary Rubin, Esq. (887-4587); I believe both these attorneys were aware of sexual rumors concerning me. I believe Rubin was friendly with legal assistant administrator Maggie Sinnott; during my tenure Sinnott and Rubin both worked on the fifth floor, and in February 1989 Sinnott arranged with Rubin to give a month-long series of weekly legal-writing seminars to legal assistants, which I attended. I believe that Rubin had previously been an English professor (Hofstra?); he holds a Ph.D. in English. I also want to advise that I have not intentionally withheld, or attempted to conceal, facts relating to my alcohol consumption. I filled out a form submitted to me by the P Street clinic that details my alcohol consumption, which was heavy during the period July 1994 to September 1996: coextensive with my psychiatric treatment by Dimitrios Georgopoulos, M.D., at the George Washington University Medical Center. This document is available to you through the P Street Clinic. Dr. Georgopoulos did not suspect that I had a drinking problem; he did not mention this issue to me, which would be corroborated by my medical records at GW.
These facts are not inconsistent with the information I volunteered at my meeting with you at my residence on Thursday evening, August 6, 1998. This will advise where I made alcohol purchases. (These purchases were limited to beer.)
Calvert-Woodley Liquors, 4339 Connecticut Avenue, 966-4400
Van Ness Liquors, 4201 Connecticut Avenue, 363-7000.
I have formed the (paranoid) impression that an African-American sales clerk at the store recognizes me. He is the only African-American at the store, which is owned by Asians.
Cleveland Park Liquor & Fine Wines, 3423 Connecticut Avenue, 363-4265
Most of my liquor (beer) purchases have been made from this location. I have formed the (paranoid) impression that personnel at this store know background facts about me: particularly, an individual named "Peter" [last name unknown, but of Greek derivation]. "Peter" is the wine expert. This store is located a few doors down from the Brookville Market. I sometimes see Brookville manager Jim Shipman purchase lottery tickets at this location. Infrequently, I have made purchases of beer at a pharmacy on the 3000 block of Connecticut Avenue, across the street from the National Zoo.
Sincerely,
Gary Freedman
