Washington, DC 20510-7218

Dear Mr. Horan:

I submit the names of two Akin Gump attorneys, both openly homosexual, who may have useful information about the culture of the law firm or information pertinent to my employment.

DAVID A. CATANIA, ESQ.
telephone: (202) 887-4504

A lengthy cover-story article about Catania in the Washington City Paper (May 21-27, 1999) reports that Catania is openly homosexual, and that he practices energy law at Akin Gump. Catania is also an at-large member of the D.C. City Council, and has served on the council since December 1997. Catania, like Carol Schwartz, is a Republican member of the Council.

Incidentally, Michael J. Madigan, Esq. (202 887-4017), a nationally-prominent attorney, and an Akin Gump partner, is active in Republican party politics.

One of Catania's colleagues on the D.C. City Council is Harold F. Brazil, Esq. Brazil is a member of the law firm of Koonz, McKenney, Johnson & Regan. Enclosed are two letters I forwarded to that firm (dated May 28, 1997 and March 11, 1998).

Catania is 30 years old and was not yet a lawyer when I was employed at the firm.

CLINT BATTERTON, ESQ. (partner)
telephone: (202) 887-4161

An article published several years ago in The Washington Lawyer reported that Batterton is openly homosexual.

Batterton was associated with the firm during my tenure (1988-1991), but I had no interaction with him.

Sincerely,

Gary Freedman
