Did Martha Stewart Learn Her Lesson?

According to U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, media tycoon Martha Stewart avoided a loss of $45,673 by selling all 3,928 shares of her ImClone Systems stock on December 27, 2001 after receiving material, nonpublic information from Peter Bacanovic, who was Stewart's broker at Merrill Lynch. The day following her sale, the stock value fell 16%.

On June 4, 2003, Stewart was indicted by the government on nine-counts including charges of securities fraud and obstruction of justice. She went on trial in January 2004. After a highly publicized, five-week jury trial that was the most closely watched of a wave of corporate fraud trials, Stewart was found guilty in March 2004 of conspiracy, obstruction of an agency proceeding, and making false statements to federal investigators and sentenced in July 2004 to serve a five month term in a federal correctional facility, affectionately called "Camp Cupcake" by its inmates, and a two year period of supervised release (to include five months of electronic monitoring).

Be that as it may.

On July 17, 2009 I posted the following on my blog on the social networking site, teebeedee.ning.com:

Why Isn't Joan Nathan Preparing For Shabbat?

It's 4:30 on a Friday afternoon at the Cleveland Park Public Library in DC, and Joan Nathan, the world renowned authority on Jewish cuisine is talking to Barbara Gaunt, one of the librarians, about research on her latest book. Wow, a celebrity in my midst! I can't believe it. At this very moment I'm looking at the face of a woman I've seen on Martha Stewart. My heart is racing. I'm in the presence of a real-life personage. I wonder if she's ever read my story, The Dinner Party?

Wow, Joan Nathan! I can't believe it. If I weren't so shy I would ask for her autograph. Oops, she just left. It's 4:45. Hey, why isn't she at home cooking her Shabbat dinner? Do I smell something fishy here?

Check out my short story: "The Dinner Party."

You know, I've always wondered if Martha Stewart got any interesting telephone calls on about July 17, 2009? Do you think Martha Stewart would tell federal investigators if she had? Did Martha Stewart learn her lesson at "Camp Cupcake?"

Joan Nathan, a best-selling cookbook author, is married to the attorney, Allan Gerson, and lives in Washington, DC -- apparently in Cleveland Park. Joan Nathan and her husband are friends (I think) of former Hogan & Hartson partner and Bill Clinton adviser, Sandy (Samuel) Berger and Berger's wife, Susan.

A week later on January 15, 2010 the USMS asked me, "Where do you eat out?"

You can't make stuff like this up!
