Hon. Alfonse D'Amato
SH-520 Hart Senate Office Building
Washington, DC 20510-3202

Dear Senator D'Amato:

Enclosed is a portion of a document submission I made to the U.S. Secret Service (Phillip C. Leadroot, S.A.) under cover letter dated July 28, 1998.

I may at some future time forward a letter similar to the enclosed sample letter addressed to the Honorable William Rehnquist to judges of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York as well as judges of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit in connection with an employment inquiry for the position of law clerk.

I am sure that Michael J. Madigan, Esq., chief majority counsel for the Senate Governmental Affairs Committee, and a partner at the law firm of Akin, Gump, Strauss, Hauer & Feld, will respond to any questions about his knowledge of my professional conduct at Akin Gump.

Sincerely,

Gary Freedman

I think that Senator Alfonse D'Amato was a leading member of the United States Senate for 18 years.
