One Jewish Perspective: Speaking Metaphorically, "Losing a Lawsuit Can Have Its Long-Term Benefits."

In 1938 Sigmund Freud and his family were forced into exile, by the Nazi government, from their home in Vienna, where Freud had spent most of his adult life. The Freuds moved to London.

On September 27, 1938 Freud moved into the house that had been prepared for him at 20 Maresfield Gardens, in Hamsptead. It was commodious and agreeable, made still more agreeable by a lovely garden awash in flower and shaded by tall trees. The fall was mild, and he spent much time outdoors, reading and resting in a swing couch.

Freud was so pleased with his new home in London that he would happily go around the house saying with obvious irony, "Wir danken unserem Fuhrer," "We thank our Fuhrer!"
