Politically-Motivated Threat Investigation?

On November 17, 2010 I published a tongue-in-cheek blog post in which I claimed to be very angry with President Obama.

The post was a parody of concerns that had earlier been raised by the U.S. Department of Justice on January 15, 2010 during a threat investigation in which I was interviewed at my residence and accused by DOJ of harboring ill-will against a federal official because I was supposedly "very angry" with the official; I had added a few facts to a Wikipedia article about the official; I disclosed the house of worship attended by the official; and I had forwarded a copy of a book I had written to the official's spouse.  (Incidentally, a Pennsylvania State University history professor had praised a section of the book.)

Be that as it may.

On November 18, 2010 two U.S. Secret Service special agents interviewed me at my residence about the blog post I had published the day before in which I claimed to be very angry with President Obama.  They wanted to learn more about my feelings about President Obama, and even searched my apartment -- but declined to look through a box that contained my dirty laundry!

(Let that be a lesson to armed felons: always hide your weapons in boxes of dirty laundry--they never check there!)

There were several oddities about the Secret Service interview.  The agents refused to give me a business card; every federal law enforcement officer who has ever interviewed me has -- without exception -- given me his business card.  One of the agents told me that if I needed to contact him I should telephone the Secret Service Field Office.  In about December 2010, the agent telephoned me and directed me not to send him any emails.  (Doesn't the Secret Service like to keep up with potentially homicidal felons?)

Oh, yes, one other oddity.  Remember those Justice Department investigators who interviewed me on January 15, 2010?  Well, on the afternoon of November 18, 2010, just before the Secret Service agents arrived at my residence, I received a gratuitous and friendly email from the Justice Department investigator who interviewed me earlier in January 2010.  Was the timing of that email from the Justice Department just a meaningless coincidence?

And, by the way, doesn't the Secret Service have more important things to investigate than satirical blog posts that parody the writings of angry citizens?
