Thomas Eakins: A Confession

The following is excerpted from the private diary of Thomas Eakins, a 19th-Century American artist who painted pictures of naked men:

Why is it that a “normal,” heterosexual man will openly admire the physique of a race horse, but generally wouldn’t be caught dead admiring a well-built, good-looking guy?

People ask me: Are you sexually aroused by the naked male models you paint? My answer? No, I am sexually aroused by race horses.
