RE: Social Security Disability Claim xxx-xx-xxxx
Dear Mr. Bowie:
Enclosed is additional documentation concerning the above-referenced U.S. Social Security Administration disability claim. I am forwarding these materials in order to resolve any concerns regarding the possible appearance of fraud in my claim.
1. "Receipt for your claim for Social Security Disability Insurance Benefits," which I dated April 20, 1993. In the lower portion of the document the Social Security claim handler has handwritten "B/C/ [birth certificate], List of Doctors, Statements."
The notation "statements" refers specifically to documents filed by my former employer, the law firm of Akin, Gump, Strauss, Hauer & Feld, with the D.C. Department of Human Rights in the firm's Response to Interrogatories and Document Request in connection with my discrimination complaint:
(1) Response to Particulars [Attachment A];
(2) Memo from Chris Robertson to Dennis M. Race dated October 25, 1991 re: Gary Freedman [Attachment D];
(3) Confidential Memo from Dennis Race to file dated October 29, 1991 [Attachment F].
I forwarded these documents to the Washington Field Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in January 1994.
Subsequent to my filing a disability claim with the U.S. Social Security Administration, on April 20, 1993, I obtained evidence relating to infirmities in the sworn statements made by Laurence J. Hoffman and Dennis M. Race. I want to advise the FBI that I have made a full and timely disclosure to the U.S Social Security Administration, the U.S. Attorney's Office, and the FBI regarding apparent infirmities in material statements made by attorney managers of my former employer that formed the basis of my disability claim.
Further, the Government of the District of Columbia (Department of Human Rights) has determined, by way of a written opinion letter dated September 24, 1993 (Determination on Reconsideration in Freedman v. Akin, Gump, Hauer & Feld) that all material statements made by Akin Gump (including statements relating to my mental competence) in connection with my discrimination complaint are true and correct notwithstanding substantial evidence that certain of the material statements are false.
2. Letter dated August 20, 1993 to the U.S. Social Security Administration detailing apparent infirmities in documentation relating to my disability claim.
I do not know what communications, if any, the Social Security Administration has had with any Akin Gump attorney managers; whether said attorney managers have at any time affirmed, disavowed, or modified any of the aboce-referenced written statements that I submitted to the agency as part of my disability claim; or whether said attorney managers made any statements to any Social Security Administration employees or officials that materially affected the agency's disability determination.
For your information, I want to respectfully advise that each of the letters you returned to me under cover letter dated February 3, 1995 (dated January 12, 1995, January 23, 1995 and January 26, 1995) relate either directly or indirectly to the bona fides of my disability claim with the U.S. Social Security Administration, an issue that falls squarely within the federal interest.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Gary Freedman
