Arnold Schoenberg (13 September 1874 – 13 July 1951) was an Austrian and later American composer, associated with the expressionist movement in German poetry and art, and leader of the Second Viennese School. Schoenberg was known early in his career for successfully extending the traditionally opposed German Romantic traditions of both Brahms and Wagner, and later and more notably for his pioneering innovations in atonality.
Ronald Schoenberg, the elder of the composer's American-born sons, is a retired judge of the Los Angeles Municipal Court, 1979 - 1999. Judge Schoenberg ruled on O.J. Simpson's 1989 spousal abuse case in compliance with the request of the prosecutor, Deputy City Attorney Robert Pingel, who had asked that Simpson serve no jail time.

Incidentally, Gottfried Wagner -- grandson of the opera composer -- writes about his meeting with Judge Schoenberg on a social occasion and Judge Schoenberg's great interest in Wagner's music. Small world!

E. Randol Schoenberg (born 1966) is an attorney, based in Los Angeles, California. He is the grandson of the Austrian composers Arnold Schoenberg and Eric Zeisl, and the son of Judge Ronald Schoenberg.
He represented Maria Altmann in her suit to obtain five Gustav Klimt paintings from the estate of Ferdinand and Adele Bloch-Bauer as well as the "Palais," the Viennese house in which the paintings were originally housed. Ms. Altmann won her case before the Supreme Court of the United States against the government of Austria in Republic of Austria v. Altmann in 2004. Schoenberg operated on a no-win, no-fee basis and reportedly received 40% of the proceeds from the Klimt paintings, amounting to a legal fee of over $120 million. He was interviewed for the documentary "Adele's Wish," which deals with these events.
E. Randol Schoenberg presently serves as the President of the Los Angeles Museum of the Holocaust.
